Loud, anarchic, cacophonous and relentless. And I thought Soundtracks for the Blind was tough going. The second disc really was a test of endurance - literally just bludgeoned me. I can’t say that this was an enjoyable listen but weirdly found it quite an addictive ride. Heaviest album since the days of Filth and Cop. Not sure how I feel about this one yet. My 2 week Swans initiation is coming to a close. Only The Seer and My Father left to go.

Sorry Hamid ;) But I really feel the need to come back to this one again. I don’t think 2 listens is enough to give my final vote, you never know it might go up!

5th listen and this has really opened up for me. Still need to give more time to The Seer but this could be my favourite reunion swans album.

This is the best
But 'The Seer' and 'The Glowing Man' are also great. (TGM gets a lot of hate, and it occasionally feels like self-parody, but in a vacuum it still rocks hard.)

I like the Glowing man a lot. I think it suffers with some fatigue from being the third album in a row with similar structures such as several 20+ minute epics. Which I think is why I also really enjoy the change in Leaving Meaning. The Seer hasn’t done much for me yet. The Seer Returns and Avatar were immediate standouts though. TBK was a tough one to crack, but now I’m there is such an involving listen.

This is definitely my favourite of the so called trilogy. It just offers so much more energy than the others, and I just find the title track on the Seer is somewhat disappointing for one of the centrepiece epics compared to those here on TBK.

yeah, I like to think of the seer t/t as more of a barren landscape, though, rather than the massive scope of the longer tracks here.

Like that perspective. Makes sense. I was just expecting more from the title track. Just feels like it doesn’t really deliver anything. I could quite easily miss out that track. But on the TBK and TGM the epics are unmissable. But then I suppose Apostate more than makes up for that. Then again, I rated TBK a 3 on first listen and now look at me! Clearly, these albums take a while to reveal themselves.

Over the years, The Glowing Man has taken the No. 1 spot in the trilogy for me. This would be n2, Bring The Sun is perfect.

I can see why, it’s a great album and it’s definitely unfairly accepted as being inferior to the other two. The Glowing Man and Children of God are the two I need to spend more time with.
