I basically only wear band tees at this point, i see a decent amount of Parkway/amity shirts a fair bit here in Aus. Stuff like Opeth/CoL etc is basically a unicorn

That's quite a few already Demon!
On this now in my big 'Trif revisits post-Watershed stuff' listening session. Opener is still gorgeous. Cusp is still fun.

Eternal Rains Will Come is still one of my favorite Opeth openers :D

Revisit-discovery, part 298,571,249,871,304,671:
Not too big a fan of the middle section here. Goblin is not my thing, don't really like the latter half of Woes (too Damnation-y mellotron-y), Moon Above is nice, but not too special.

Revisit-discovery, part 298,571,249,871,304,672:
River is as lovely as I remember, Voice of Treason was super enjoyable this time round. Faith in Others was kind of nice as well.
The middle section is what holds this one back for me. Did enjoy it more than I remember overall though! Feel a 3.5 is on the conservative side.

@Trifolium I was making an intentionally dumb comment, I don't think bands should ever do things they don't want to, but god do I miss the days when this band actually released amazing material. Everything they did post Watershed is not bad, not average, but just kind of boring and beneath their lofty standards. Sure there's some amazing songs on every one of those albums, but as a whole they mostly drag on and don't offer a whole lot of tunes that have stuck with me. They went from innovation to rehashing 70s influenced dad prog and have become infinitely less interesting as a result, for me at least.

I feel like this album is one you can show your friends to ease them into Opeth a bit. Quite beginner friendly, even though Ghost Reveries is probably the best album to suck someone into the Opeth cosmos

Suspected as much StormC. But still!
I think it might be the most representative of the last four indeed kalk, but not of their sound as a whole. That still leans towards the metal stuff so GR probably yes.

Would depend on one's musical background, as always - but I could never condone starting here so Ghost it is!

I hear ya Trif
Yeah if someone showed me this and told me this is a good introduction to their sound I would question that person's good intentions

The middle does lag, after the exciting first three tracks (though Cusp is far from my favorite) it does drag on until the ending of River, and then it gets quite good again.
I think Elysian Woes should’ve been placed elsewhere in the track list or something, cause it’s quite a nice song.

Just jammed this one again, and I think Faith in Others is starting to become one of my favorite Opeth closers. Beautiful tune, and I love the piano and mellotron parts

Faith in others is probably the best song on the album for sure

Yeah it's nice. Like it too.
Apostle In Triumph, To Bid You Farewell, Karma (or Epilogue), White Cluster, BWP, Weakness, Isolation Years, Hex Omega, Folklore (or Marrow of the Earth), and Allting tar slut are all better to me. Opeth closers are good!

But only Eternal Rains stands up to their better material.
