There is Death and Atheist and Monstrosity and Lykathea Aflame and Mithras and... uh.. yeah you are right.

This is every bit as good as Death's best output and better than any of Atheist's albums.

Well, Elements is also on par with this but other than that, it's a hard standard to match.

Unquestionable Presence is infinitely better, although it's more tech death than prog.

I love Atheist and Monstrosity but nothing they’ve done is better than this and only one Death album is better than this.

Any Atheist/Death (except for Perseverance) album is better than this tbh

No

"and better than any of Atheist's albums."

Possibly. I think the jazz fusion on this owes too much to Holdsworth whereas Atheist's brand of Jazz Metal is arguably less gimmicky and more distinctive. I'm not sure.

There is one thing I am sure of though. Textures is a classic song.

Honestly, to me, this is quite possibly the most overrated dm record of its generation. So much great stuff came out in its time, and I don't see why anyone would place it above the other heavy-weights in the subgenre.

Piece of Time is almost as good as this.

I don't think this is overtly Holdsworth-influenced, either, although, there are moments.

Frederik Thorendal's playing, on the other hand...

Definitely hear some Holdsworth in the leads but it's way more traditionally melodic
