KILL jams Priests hard, but he's been dragging his feet on this one

Think I should try some more priest. Only ever heard Ram it down and Screaming for Vengeance.

I'm partial to Defenders of the Faith. The first half of that album is so rock-solid and it's Halford's best traditional metal showing. I honestly can't stand some of SFV ("Pain and Pleasure," in particular, is hard to sit through at points).

I think SFV is awesome but it's probably part nostalgia seeing as it's one of the first metal albums I ever owned

Not heard the full album yet but the little snippets that I've grabbed so far tend to lead me to conclude that this album maybe trying too hard to say "we are still metal..even after Nostradamus". The same thing happened after Point of Entry was released released..hence we got "Screaming for Vengeance" as a follow-up.

Only problem is this: When you write an album to simply counter criticisms of the previous one, then you usually end up falling at the first hurdle. They succeeded with "Screaming.." but I'm not hearing the same formula working with Redeemer. However, I will be patient and wait until I've heard the full album. That seems only fair!

Oh and by the way..I really like "Point of Entry"!

"Opener "Dragonaut" could make a decent case for being being worthy of the fabled description British Steel vs. Painkiller"

Precisely where Redeemer of Souls fits in this spectrum though is a constantly baffling and difficult question to answer, yielding mixed results overall.

If the decision making was like this with me, I would slap a 2/5 on it and move on in life hahahaha. There's too much good music out there waiting for exposure rather then wasting your time deciding whether a records great or not. Fortunately for me, I took my own advice with this and I gave this one listen and decided it sucked. The end, move on!

Great review btw.

I was never a fan of Priest honestly, yet even so I don't find it that bad. But yeah there is quite a few lazy songs on here. Though the chorus on Dragonaught is awesome. :D

Toondude, have you listened to anything from Sad Wings of Destiny to Painkiller? It's all better than this.

Is Point of Entry better than this one? It's been too long since I've listen to Point to be able to compare right now.
