Fowl, that's a good point -- how you encounter an album is a big part of the experience. Like, I kinda enjoy Priest's Jugulator, and it was the first album of theirs I bought. But knowing myself, I would be salty about that album if I'd been a Priest fan since Painkiller.

I'm finding a little more enjoyment in this without the burden of what it could or should have been, and it sounds like you might be also. I suppose I'm at the "acceptance" stage of grief, huh?

This is a good album. On par with The Hunter. You could probably trade these two and emperor on any given day

there isn't much in it really, sonically that's the same band. There's clear eras for the band:

- Remission and Call

- Leviathan and BM

- CtS

- Hunter, OMRTS, EoS

- H&G

pour's got it right, though it's hard to even lump Leviathan and Blood Mountain for me. the latter got decidedly weirder -- the theme-and-variation bridges of Capillarian Crest and Mortal Soil, the howled nonsense vocals of Bladecatcher and Siberian Divide, the harmonic layers in Crystal Skull and Cysquatch's outro, etc. just an album that doesn't sound like any other. maybe that makes it less cohesive than Leviathan, but it also helps give that three-album run through CtS almost infinite replay value.

Underrated album. Leviathan is definitely their strongest release though.
