Honestly after hearing The Lost Song Part 3 I was excited for her vocals to be way less shaky on this album but nope they're exactly the same
Vincent's vocals are incredible here though

Good review. We don't really agree, but that's okay ;)
I have a review for this ready, but I'll post it tomorrow.

lost song pt 3 feels to me like a huge, repetitive build-up resulting nothing. the only song i don't enjoy on here

Thanks Willie, yeah I was wondering what you thought of this having read your reviews of the previous two

This suffers from the same lack of depth and excess of cheese as Weather Systems except worse. I think the overall sound was better executed on Weather Systems as well. It may just be that this aesthetic just feels stale at this point though. The
second half is better since it does something different.

Nah Weather Systems was way more cheesy than this one

I actually love Danny's voice. Sucks that he doesn't sing on more tracks

I've never been an Anathema fan but this is really solid stuff. Especially when compared to Weather Systems, which had too many flaws imo. This album really surprised me, definitely a contender for my prog album of the year so far, along with Demon by Gazpacho

Shit a review already. I wanted more from this album, but I'm still allowing it to properly sink in.
They need SW production

"Nah Weather Systems was way more cheesy than this one"
It was cheesy but my God did it have a lot of passion in it
"Honestly after hearing The Lost Song Part 3 I was excited for her vocals to be way less shaky on

Yeah her vibrato's been exacerbated on this album. Vinny's a boss, expect nothing less. Though I
hoped for more variety in his vocals. He has aggressive sections but I was hoping he'd use his
deeper vocals, especially on "Anathema", they would've been perfect on that song

Previous two albums didn't do much for me, in contrast to this one.
I really dig the gloom of it, it's like the distant relative of A Natural Disaster.

The album cover definitely is a close relative of AND

i like the more subtle approach to the instrumentation here, and the use of electronics/synth
it's somewhere between a 3.5/4.0, leaves a brief but really striking impression, it's just really enjoyable and easy to get lost in. far from their best but far from their worst, i really like it and it's all i can ask for after the mess that was weather systems

"after the mess that was weather systems"
-_-
The t/t would have been a hell of a lot better with subtle drumming and no generic electronic elements. The electronic elements take away from the songs more than contribute imo.
