"Autechre are one of the most intriguing groups of the last twenty or so years, not just in the field of electronic music, but music at large."

Solid opening statement. Agreed.

this definitely feels more like an album than anything ive ever heard from them

like idk how to word it better than that. all their other work doesn't really seem to have a definite beginning or end in the way that they leave you feeling but rather like you're just experiencing a smaller section cut out of something larger, like you're just glimpsing at it

and that whole vibe generally works really well with the type of music they create and their overall aesthetic but this definitely feels like a solid finished experience with a definite arch throughout the album

There's a pretty funny review with an arching story for this on rym

I think this is their most effective/balanced mix of off the wall beats and melodies which might be why it feels more cohesive, since most of the other albums are generally either very melodic (mostly early) or with almost no melody at all, and go back and forth between them

that's the impression I get anyway it'll probably be a long time before I'm done fully absorbing all of their material

Despite being something of a transition album I feel this might one of, if not their most aesthetically intriguing release

Also think it might be their most accessible, I never have any issues whatsoever listening to it from start to finish regardless of my mood which is weird considering how much lusher their earlier material is
