idk what's not to like about this. never is one of their most innovative and prettiest songs
Have you heard Things Fall Apart or Game Theory at all?

meant to reply sooner but been out of town pretty much right after i posted this... doubt any of the peeps i'm responding to will see this but oh well
Jacob: Doin pgood man, been out of the writing game for a bit though so I'm pretty rusty. Just been in a listening slump tbh, what's been up w/ you?
also do I use that word a lot? didn't even notice hehe
sobhi: it's short listen to it! also def listen to undun it was way better than how i got over imo. one of their top 5 records i'd say
pete/matt/anyone who talked about never: I actually really did not like never. that chick's voice was soooo idk... young to me. felt weird listening to it and i'm not crazy about the hook anyway. just kind of an eh song to me tbh
ProjectFreak: hah thanks! was hoping someone would like that line, glad you caught it.
matt(again): agreed, this would have gone over much better as not a full length album. That being said, tons of the flaws could have been remedied simply by fleshing things out a bit more. they were never at risk of losing listeners due to the album's length; another 10 or 15 minutes would have gone a long way here.
TheSaneLunatic: that is very very very weird. especially since this comes off much more as ? than thought. maybe we'll hear more about that in the coming weeks.

also agreed on things fall apart being a classic; for what it's worth (nothing) it's my 2nd favorite hip hop album oat

i understand yours and everyone else's gripes with the album. the excitement has died down a little for me and i just keep going back to the same 3-4 songs at this point. there's some truly excellent material here, i just wish it were more focused and less casual, especially for a roots album. i don't think it's nearly as experimental as some claim it to be, just scatterbrained. i wouldn't have been the least bit surprised to find out this was an ep
also black rock could have been such a great tune but dice raw just fucking ruins that song. worst part is the chorus, shit as it is, has been stuck in my head and it's driving me nuts.

i've loved pretty much every roots record before rising down. did not like undun much
|
| |
rising down was pretty great; undun is one of their best

yeah black rock hook is awful; that sample is gorgeous though
sobhi i don't remember if undun was a grower; it hink it was pretty immediate for me, so maybe just not your thing...
also i saw your avatar on cd the other day at a used cds store and i was like whoaaa

pretty interesting album at the very least
I admire how The Roots are constantly able to evolve and stay relevant and at the centre of the "what is hip-hop in the year ____" discussion, but I'm just not sure how into this particular expression of theirs I am
Things Fall Apart remains their best work for me, at least. I don't see this challenging their best material.

sobhi don't be silly, at least give this a spin or two

potsy: i can't believe you still haven't listened to this. it's just over 30 minutes
|

feel p bad that i've never listened to a full roots album, only song I've relaly listened to is the one from Game Theory with the J Dilla beat
is that a good starting point
