This is something fo sho. But it doesn't feel like it's got any real direction except "look at how good we are at our instruments." No real emotion resonates off of this. Like, awesome playing and all that, but give me something more than just that.

I disagree. I was being hyperbolic, btw. First time I heard these guys I had that same feeling like they were just showing off, but the songwriting here seems so fluid. For me, each member has their time to shine on this album without it seeming wanky at all. Just a perfect mix of insumental talent and songwriting.

I'm not saying it's wank, it's just good playing with no real purpose or with uninteresting songwriting.

Wank is flaunting technical ability with no rhyme or reason. There is direction here, but it's not concrete and is more aimless.

Listen again Mars! I promise none of these songs are without direction.

In fact, that's why I like it so much. Every song has its own identity, which can be hard to do with an instrumental album.

I think i finally found something kind of close to what i was looking for: a hip hop/jazz equivalent to a post rock band

Can't argue with that. Wish they'd do something in this vein again. They out exploring and shit instead.
