I have a hard time deciding if that or Qeres is the best here, they both blow you the fuck away with powerful endings but they do it in very different ways. Everything Disappearing never fails to make me tear up at the end tho so

Qeres and Everything Disappearing are certainly right up there, I'd pick ED out of the two (probably the overall peak), although I do still hold a massive amount of affection for Gutted also
Archangel is a jam. Crystallophobia too. Man, this album is just silly

returned to this for the first time in like er maybe 10 years and it's very good

yep this band is essentially STILL unknown on RYM considering the clout they have achieved here. I knew this to be the case but it seems to be holding up incredibly (595 ratings vs 900-odd here is actually absurd for the size of the respective userbases and Astrial Pariah also dons a significant gap)
might be a peak Sputcore moment tbh because this band are awesome *sheds tear*

This is one of those albums that Sputnik gets right and RYM doesn’t

I think of Trophy Scars as being the quintessential Sput band.
Literally haven't seen them championed anywhere else lol

the first two tracks play and i'm thinking god damn maybe this IS their best work, and then archangel comes on and my enthusiasm rapidly deteriorates

Archangel rules tho

Album Rating: 4.5
Archangel is one of their best ballads tbh, but it does come weirdly early in the tracklist for how much it stalls the pacing

yeah idk, i've heard that track maybe a dozen or so times and i just find it dreadfully boring minus the latter half which is decent, but for sure its positioning in the tracklist is bad. seems like something better suited as the finale or maybe penultimate track. thankfully crystallophobia has rekindled my interest in the album

Yeah, if there's one complaint I have about this album it's that there is space -both narratively and sonically- that could have been added between Qeres and Arachangel, but it's a testament to how much Archangel rips that I can quickly get over that whiplash.

Every City Vacant kinda fills that niche already, and Archangel back to back with Everything Disappearing would be too fking much pacing-wise lmao. Think switching it with Crystallophobia would be the only option

ah, i'm not familiar with the end of the album tbh, been too long, just speaking in general that it seems more like a closer. can't even remember everything disappearing atm
also burning mirror is so not it. i completely forgot this song existed. album's pacing a bit weird for sure. already getting more out of it than i did before tho, because i didn't really notice crystallophobia until this play but god damn that song is good

yes lol, Archangel sequencing is a minor gripe I've learned to live with, but Burning Mirror is the one point where this totally whiffs it. Chicago Typewriter to the end is a spotless run though, so hold on

okay... so, "Chicago Typewriter to the end is a spotless run though" - yes, 100% agreed. the latter half of this album is dramatically better than the former, and i think in the past i got so bored after burning mirror and hagiophobia that i was just zoned out for most of the rest. i don't think hagiophobia is bad per se, but those two back to back is a bit rough. chicago typewriter, vertigo, and everything disappearing are so good. also the last 2 mins of every city.

Lol yeah Hagiophobia is alright as a big dumb guitar solo banger, but it drags its feet at a point where the tracklist rly needs to get cooking. One of those classic never skip/never pick out Album Only tracks uhhh name some more (mwY - C Minor? Hum - Green to Me? Yeule - Eyes?)

Album Rating: 4.5
yep, Archangel rules. Pacing is kinda whatever, but I don't know how you'd fix it. The only glaring issue here is Burning Mirror's general existence, because the album comes to a grinding halt due to how much that shit sucks (I've learnt to begrudgingly accept it, but am more than willing to occasionally deploy the skip... something I barely ever do!)
