If you didn't know, that's a René Magritte painting called "The false mirror".

Hm, interesting Vlac. Didn't know that. Have a feeling the eye shot from Blade Runner may have been

influenced by that painting...

I wish vaporwave was bigger. It's such an interesting culture, but it's too small to have many noteworthy things. There are so many possibilities but, it's become full of lazy people trying to jump on the bandwagon.

Well considering how niche it is and where it started from, I'd say it's pretty damn popular. I

remember listening to Midnight Television and Computer Dreams back in early 2011 and being blown

away that this idea came into fruition at all, let alone was being embraced by a small group of

people. It's exploded since then. Now it's all over the internet and is being talked about on

publications as big as Chicago Reader and Vice, and hell, it even has its own Wikipedia page now.

I agree that it's become largely plagued by clowns on bandcamp and soundcloud hiding their lack of

talent with the trendy tags and aesthetics of Vaporwave, or parodying it all together (most of the

time unintentionally, which is far worse). But there are some really interesting artists still

standing from these ruins (Oneohtrix Point Never, Nmesh, Saint Pepsi, James Ferraro, Holly Herndon)

that are taking the sound in a different and more complex direction that will be far more difficult

for leeches to emulate.

how did I miss this?

when I was a young'n if toonami wasn't on I'd watch the weather channel local on the 8s or the tv guide channel to put me to sleep. looking back, that might be why I associate things like this with dreams and have such a warm nostalgic sweet spot for vaporwave

another good review btw, tornader
