Eric is the best part of that song, but I hate that he's on it.

Self-titled is the greatest pop rock record all time.
This is average indie alternative.
The math in your claim does not check out.

The two records before this sound like fake corporate bullshit with a "wacky" singer or whatever. They sound like they are trying to push as many units as possible.

Shall we do the math?
Flamingo trigger=unsigned debut. Completely unhinged and unpredictable.
Introducing=first record as a signed band. Still wild but much more "catchy" and polished.
Self-titled=first major label record. Easily most polished and hook-laden record yet. Most songs follow basic songwriting formula (verse, chorus, etc.)
Church=a similar continuation of s/t
Gonzo=first unsigned record in 10 years. Most radical shift in sound yet. Recorded by legendary punk icon. Songs are all less gimmicky and much more personal. Songs usually follow "tradional" structure, however the choruses don't feel forced and come naturally in the song.
