It's similar to the previous record, but the songwriting has improved.

If you've left your twenties behind and love an ale this album is spectacular.

"Oh long before you and I were born

Others beat these benches with their empty cups

To the night and the stars

To be here, and now, and who we are

Another sunrise with my sad captains

With who I choose to lose my mind

And if it's all we only pass this way but once

What a perfect waste of time"

And there we have one of the greatest odes ever devised to explain the joys of going on the piss.

i can see that this is an album to get lost in (in a good way)

but 4.5 zak, how do you justify that? I am curious

right now i would say it's a 3.5 that i would happily spin late at night

I've always flown the flag for Elbow Lark dude.

I was disappointed with their last and this was a massive return to form for me.

Charge

Fly Boy Blue

The t/t and Sad Captains are among the best things they've done.

It's a grower, at first I thought it was good and a marked improvement on their last but then it clicked massively.

okay then, i really liked their last album actually (lippy kids, the night will always win and open arms are all wonderful songs to me, tho it does have some less-perfect songs agreed)

Suppose i will give this the benefit of the doubt, and hope it's a grower too

cause right now it's all about sad captains

Horses for courses dude.

Having spent a night with my sad captains and getting shouted at by the missus it spoke volumes.
