Actually what I said was that it was nice to have a couple of lines I misheard made clear, not that I had some epiphany regarding the record's meaning.

I wasn't planning on doing this, but here's some elaboration. As you and I have both agreed upon,
this album's concept was taken from the idea of a madman's diary documenting his interactions with
and thoughts regarding a supernatural force he claims to have followed through centuries, a force
which is responsible for countless horrific events throughout history.
The very idea of a supernatural force that has caused evil things to happen is most definitely in
the realm of cosmic horror (whether this creature is actually real or not within the story here is
irrelevant). That shouldn't be disputable. That's something I focused on in the review, and isn't
contradicted by anything you've posted. I chose not to focus so much on the protagonist or his
internal struggles because I did not feel it necessary to spend half the review writing a
dissertation.
Also, it may be helpful to bear in mind that, as others have pointed out, some of these lyrics
aren't explicit. There is room for some interpretation here. The very fact that you see some glimmer
of hope in here while I don't should be a testament to that.

Actually I'm glad you've brought this up, because you reminded me of a line in the review I was never very happy with.

Music comes before lyrics. It's nice that you understand it in a certain way you do Grift, but that doesn't mean it's true and if I still cry during the piano part of I've Been Walking Part 1 because I enjoy the music, I'm ok with not having to understand the story of this.
That works for every damn album unless it's clearly a concept album

I'm sorry Choccy. That is not true. If lyrics were a secondary consideration why not spout unintelligible cave man grunts over a nice piano scale! Gazpacho said the words of the manuscript were very central to their process, the alpha and omega. As they are for 93.9 percent of all album makers.

You clearly don't listen to death metal Grift. my point is, music doesn't need lyrics and is perfectly capable of telling a story without it, like all of Godspeeds discography. I'm not saying lyrics are totally irrelevant because their not but fine, I see your point now. However, I don't necessarily think "untrained ears" needs to interpret it in the way you do (right or wrong, you're never going to know) to still enjoy it. I also disagree with this 93.9% because A LOT of pop albums are not about lyrics at all, because most of it is the same cheesy lyrics that are hardly true. The world of pop music certainly makes up for more than 6.1% of all albums

Grift is like one of those dumb 13 year olds pretending to act like he's intelligent but just sounds hilarious

Man, this is some bullshit. I work in the music industry, and lyrics are always first. ESPECIALLY WITH POP MUSIC!!! Some inane hook repeated over and over and over.........and over. The lyrics don't mean much other than repeat the chorus. Hence the name "hook". By your reasoning Jazz should dominate the charts Choccy.

In the "industry" nothing is more valuable than well written, pithy, concise lyrics that tell a story well. That is why I appreciate a beautifully phrased lyric. A few choice well placed lyrics, if you listen can bring a torrent of feelings and emotions. The highest form of human communication. That is why I gets irate when it is not fully grasped, especially an album of this caliber. It seems everyone loves the album for the most part, except Mongi. Get into the back story and love it more!

Wasn't planning on getting involved in this conversation but did it ever occur to you that people
listen to music differently. That other people listen to music before lyrics? That Sigur Ros actually
does spout unintelligible gibberish on ( ), yet it actually comes off as even more meaningful to some
people like myself than most songs with "actual lyrics?" Just because you think you lyrics are primary
doesn't make them primary for others.
