just the 'you walk into this room and these lyrics aren't supposed to rhyme but they are just so emotive i have to say them in an unorthodox manner' vocals.

Idk, always found this band to be overrated.

But I do like the vibe on this, admittedly.

Hard guilty pleasure. Vocals just aren't doing anything for me. Instrumentation is solid though. 3-3.5.

"somewhere at the bottom's lyrics are untouchable"
uh only because i don't touch things that are covered in trash
(exaggerating, but only slightly)
"wildlife didn't really click for me until i read all of the lyrics and listened to all of it in one sitting"
I did that with this last night and it still didn't quite click. Probably going to review this soon

well i thought at first that the lyrics of somewhere at the bottom were just way too over-the-top but then i found the connection with them. the same could never be said of wildlife or this
actually wildlife never clicked hard for me either

some of the guitar playing is neat but it's a pretty basic album overall

wildlife that is

I don't know, this album has just kind of taken away a lot of what I enjoyed about the band. It seems to be the newer consensus that Somewhere... was immature and less cohesive, but that was a lot of what made it entertaining and charming. I'd take a ridiculously overwrought and riffy song like Bury Your Flames over a lot of the more "collected" songs on here because at least shit's happening.
|
| |
think about it from the perspective of the band though
they probably got hella tired of the darling jokes

I don't know, there seems to be a trend sometimes on this site of praising bands for relaxing and
getting a more composed flow or whatever in their later albums (like, I don't know, Thrice's
Major/Minor compared to Illusion) but all I can garner from it a lot of the time is it's more boring.

bury your flame might be my favorite song by them with its over-the-top vocals and aggressive, catchy riffage but damn the whole album here is so controlled beauty i gotta love the maturity of this
that being said, somewhere at the bottom still stands as my favorite album by them

they probably got hella tired of the darling jokes
Haha, "coffee" is apparently the new "darling".
|
| |
sup pleb
also, the guitar part that carries thru 35 is so good
|
| |
another thing i love about this is that it still has that "unrelated story about something terrible that happened but it reminds me of you" feel that they've always gone for. yet, it seems to be better executed here
