Every Ulcerate album post fracture is a five. Except for Destroyers. That one isn't quite on the same level as those masterpieces.

Id personally just switch destroyers and vermis on your scale and agreed

11 years late to the hype, this is indeed brilliant but can I be an ass and say production/mix is a complete brick wall to my ears, no headroom at all. Vox are a bit underwhelming, too, guitars are superb tho.

4 means I'm pretty excited yeah, will definitely revisit this often and might grow on me still. Got a bit grumpier with the ratings over the years, I must admit.

I don’t disagree with either the brick-walled prod or the slightly underwhelming vox tbh. Fair points. Fortunately I can overlook the vox as they’re not intrusive/distracting and not my main focus, they’re just not particularly impressive.

Paul's vox fucking slay imo. Maybe not technically the most gifted vocalist but the vocals fit the apocalyptic atmosphere perfectly

Absolutely
It's not about having a crazy range sometimes but more about enhancing the atmosphere

The two things I love most about the vox are, that if you read the lyrics (which I have done with ulcerate but rarely do otherwise) they are actually great, and to add another dimension to the music, the vocal aesthetic presented by the lyrics and their flow within their respective songs compliment the instrumentals in ways that give a very menacing/apocalyptic feel. I.e. the vocals are used superbly as an additional instrument to add to the atmosphere basically. My favorite examples of this are that section in soullessness embraced where the track blows up just after the 2 minute mark and the closing lines of the destroyers title track. Most (if not all) bands do this to at least some degree and it's probably not something a lot of people consciously think about or notice, but I do.
I'm sure everybody realizes this stuff, I'm just trying to explain why I love them instead of just saying they rule lol.

That may just be verbal diarrhea or maybe it makes sense idk

No, basically you're saying that the style and lyrics complement the music well. I've never read their lyrics but I do agree that dude sounds like the harbinger of apocalypse

Yes thats basically what I was trying to say lol thanks for being concise

Like, it definitely seems to me that there is intent behind every word choice to not only be a great lyric, but to add a dimension to the instrumental aesthetic of each song, if that makes sense
