I could see the knocks on their other albums, even though I wouldn't agree, but pretty much every track on this album has a clear compositional direction. Going down to a three piece hurt them after this album, but to me the way these tracks just continue to mutate and evolve over their runtime is nothing short of brilliant. The drumming is a bit over the top, especially busy with the hands during some of the quieter passages, but far from random.
tl;dr, this is the still the best thing ever

Man, I really wanna give this a listen because A. it slaps so hard and B. it's been a HOT minute since I've listened to this, but I've got so much 2018 shit to listen to before the end of the year, I can't afford to take up that time with an album I've heard plenty of times. Sigh...
