I feel like I've grown out of the genre.

dont worry, i know this feeling all too well. its not that i dont like the music anymore, but its become less of an obsession than it has become mood music. i generally only listen to metal in the gym anymore because its great for that, but in general i just dont feel the same way about it that i used to.

growing out of something doesnt mean you cant still like it, it just means that it fills a different role.

I didn't listen to metal at all for almost a year, but I've been listening to it pretty much non-stop again. Will always be my fav genre of music I'm sure.

I've heard plenty of good metal thanks, sorry if not all of it is Children of Bodom level.

This isn't really the case for me as I still dig a lot of the old stuff. It does make up quite a small parentage of my music listening these days though so maybe I am heading that way. Thrash for life though.

Oh I thought you meant about the discussion about modern metal and (not) growing out of metal etc.

Yeah I've probably said that a few times cos it's still true as we've gone further through the year.

'Heard like over 30 good (or better) albums this year. This is the only metal album amongst those though.'

lol jamie, i was only speaking to 2014 with my comment. above read like there has not been much good metal this year when there really has been. you've clarified that it's your preferences that have changed tho, all good

and wrt my genre comment, calling something as vast as metal one single 'genre' (doom, black, death, power etc) that you can grow out of is silly to me. like saying i've grown out of rock, sounds dumb but wtv, opinions

thats why we have things called subgenres to describe parts of a larger genre

your analogy doesnt really make any sense

I'm sorry but claiming metal is 'vast' and using that as an argument to say I can't grow out of it is inane. Metal has about a million subgenres but on the whole most metal has a lot of similar characteristics.

Honestly what I mean by having grown out of it is I find it difficult to listen to metal I don't already listen to and have zero tolerance for any metal less than stellar.
