@Dark That's the point of having different tastes though. There's nothing wrong with, for example,
giving an older album a 4 but giving a newer album 4.5 because you love it more. Like some more
essential stuff I want to love, but sometimes it just works out that way ya know?

Yeah, it all depends on how you rate things and whether it's in comparison to what's out there within that genre, or just music as a whole. I think I rate albums based on how I feel they compare to albums within their genre, but sometimes I think that is a misrepresentation when I give some metalcore album a 4 because it's surrounded by so much garbage, and then give like a Radiohead album a 4. That's just me though.

For me it's how I feel about the music. I see no point in rating based on influence alone like some people do it's just how I feel about what I'm listening to and not trying to compare it to anything.

The ending half of this album is awesome tommy, but idk if you don't like the first half then you may not like the second half.

it's fine and enjoyable just not seeing where the 4.5s and 5s are coming from
obviously needs more spins but

after two listens it's a very solid 3 or 3.5; I like St. Vincent's other two better
nowhere near the best of the year though, especially with HANL and ASMZ both pushing on that 4.5 boundary

In all honesty, its just taste. Look at sunbather and 20/20 experience. Both were lauded by critics, and some people had no idea why.

Album Rating: 4.5
The Dark, Dark Bright is probably my favorite album so far this year.
|
| |
I'm in that same boat with Sunbather. The whole style of Shoegaze and black metal just doesn't add up
to me.
And unfortunately Hogan, TDDB came out last year so we won't see that one any AOTY years.
