@fowo A lot of it seems to stem from Spencer's vocals. People think they're whiney.
Honestly, I think it's a branding thing. This isn't to say that people aren't entitled to their opinions, but it seems like the moment people see "Periphery" they immediately think they're going to hate it. And when a lot of people give a band hate on this site it's hard for that band to get any traction.
People also just seem to hate fans of the band. I dunno, if you skim through any Periphery thread you'll see the reasons.

And yeah, this album could have been really great, but it kinda feels like they took the main theme and slapped one small part in a song they'd already written, instead of writing a song that is based around one of the main themes.

There's not liking something and there's writing 'lame' as your review. Damn impressive.
I'm glad they didnt try to modify it to be better. Would it sound cooler? Probably. But this ep wasn't ment to achieve success, it was ment to show which direction are band members into. And I'm glad that happened, how often do we get to breakdown the sound of a band into pieces accurately? See how different each of them is but they reach a midpoint we know as "their sound"?
This thing is rare and I love it.
