To be honest with you, I find this review slightly insulting. But to each his own, I guess.

Because influence =/= quality

I think it has to do with one's enjoyment of the genre rather than quality. People who enjoy brit invasion/baroque pop are almost bound to love this album. People who are not into that kind of music are less likely to like it. The Beatles are legends but dudes who are not into that kind of music might not dig them that much.

Yeah they're pretty accessible and masters at what they did. I've read somewhere that Brian Wilson was devastated when he listened to this album because he thought nothing could top Pet Sounds so there's no question about quality here. But I've known people who weren't into that kind of music and thought of The Beatles as too poppy and light.

For me this is a 5 based on quality not just influence even though Revolver, Abbey Road, and The White Album are better. The Beatles were just that good.

If you are in any way a fan of melody, a simple tune that says it all and artistic development you like the Beatles, if you disagree you just don't know it yet! One of the following will be ticked.

@Manosg: the irony of that is the fact that The Beatles made Sgt. Pepper primarily to rival Pet Sounds, because it was the best thing they'd heard up to that point

really glad you guys enjoyed the review even if it you didnt agree with the rating itself. it takes a lot to look at music you have a special connection with through a critical lens. ill be the first to admit that every Radiohead album to me past pablo honey is a 4, with In Rainbows, Ok Computer, and Kid A being 5s. Im a huge fan of the Beatles and just got through their bio by Bob Spitz (an exhausting but fantastic read that I recommend to all beatles fans if interested) which really solidified this imo as a 3.5. it sheds light on the process a bit more, which in all honesty was a bit haphazard and arbitrary. my favorite beatles is revolver though, with white album trailing very closely behind, then rubber soul, hard days night, abbey road, MMT, this album, Help!, and then the rest im indifferent too. please give more feedback and check out my other reviews!

I personally think youre completely wrong but it def isnt the "best album of all time". both arguments that border the
radical ends of the spectrum are just as ludicrous as the other
