Cool that you actually reviewed this Jacob. I also kinda agree with the review in that it al sounds great but doesn't really leave something behind.

Midnight Colour is something of a near-classic and I've heard people raving about Cyclical so he definitely deserves some further exploration.

thanks dudes, i'll be sure to check out those artists.
yeah Typhoner, I've been wanting to start reviewing more electronic for awhile now. If things pan out, I'll be reviewing the new Moderat release in the next week!

You should do their old one, though ;-)
|
| |
i could, but i have yet to check it out! New one didn't impress me much at first, but after multiple listens it's really making an impression on me.
What are the main contributions Modeselektor provides to Moderat? To me, this all sounds like an Apparat side project.

alternatively, wack out 1000 words on just Therapy and validate my love for it.

I really love their first one, basically because that one sounds like a beefed-up Modeselektor side project ;-). But they also bring in their fascination for all the UK steppy stuff and general eclectisism. But I prefer their debut because it clearly has the Modeselektor-madness, although with some more delicate Apparat stylings. It keeps things varied a bit more, although others will argue the new one is more consistent (like a real album or maybe even a statement).

maybe I'll make another electronic list soon if I can actually put in the effort
|

liking that album art
|
| |
yeah me too
|

Yay, Omaha and electronic!! :]
Wasn't that much of a fan of his previous releases, but maybe I'll check this out.
|
| |
is this better/worse than midnight color because i looved midnight color
|
| |
Worse, I'm guessing.

Hi Clerq! =]
I'm part of the vast minority who didn't care for Midnight Colour. Granted, I haven't listened to the record TOO much, but I've been a little bored with what I have heard from it.

Hiya!
One bit of critique towards your review perhaps: I understand the urge to use the visual metaphors for this kind of music, but they can easily sound very farfetch'd or cheesy. I struggle very much with this as well in my reviews; it's very hard I find to describe certain electronic albums and sounds in a nice, not overblown way.
|
| |
very fair point man, it's a tightrope to balance and i may have gone overboard on this one. certainly something I'll keep in mind for the future, though, and I appreciate your honesty =]
|
| |
I wouldn't call it "gone overboard" exactly. It's mostly some sort of gut feeling when reading some of the comparisons that they don't really cut it somehow. Don't take it as criticism per se, but just something to perhaps keep in mind.
In either case, great job of course with the review!
|
| |
thanks bud. i'm sure some of this reads a little uncomfortably, because to be honest, i edited the review a fair bit and some of it may read a little disjointed. i typically don't like to edit insanely much after i've already posted-- as you said, though, things for me to keep in mind.
How'd you like the new Moderat album, man?
