I've just now gotten around to picking this cd up. I love Devin's work in this band as well as Strapping Young Lad. The man is an insane genius for sure. This is a great cd but I still think Accelerated Evolution is his best. Theres just something about that cd that is close to me. I think its cause I first heard it during a high time in my life, some cds do that for me.

Accelerated was my first devin cd so i feel a great love for it. Have you checked out Ocean Machine yet, it's probably his best but its more of a grower than normal for him...i didnt like it the first couple times but the last time i just let it play and it was amazing.

Great stuff here, I was kinda hesitant to get it for whatever reason, but it's right up there with the SYL stuff.

I enjoyed this but not nearly as much as Terria. They're similar enough that Terria always gets chosen over this.

Pixillate is such a cool song.

Synchestra could very well be my favorite piece of music ever.
The whole thing is one overblown picture. It's long and extremely demanding, but what lies beneath multiple listens is explicit genius. This is, IMO the golden standard for progressive rock.
It's only fault is the minimalistic "Vampolka/Vampira" which adds diversity but detracts from the pacing of the record.
It's second half is utterly flawless. "Triumph" is the one Devin Townsend song that pretty well sums what he is all about. No praise is too much for a work like this. Ocean Machine and Terria are masterworks that i hold very dearly and mean a lot to me, but nothing DT has done has encompassed the almoight Synchestra.

Great review!
Townsend are a god among musicians, in a studio this man is invicible.
My favourite album "thou i really don´t have a favourite" would have to be Biomech in that fact that i can´t find anything elsewhere with that absorbing atmosphere.
Triumph, Gaia, Pixilate, Notes From Africa are definetely among my faves on Synchestra,
and what´s sick is that i could name songs from all his records that could eventually be a even top ten over my all time favourite tracks!

Vampolka/Vampira are hilariously good. Rest of the album rules as well.
I like how he always puts the bass high up in the mix. Not only that, it's hevy as fuck, especially during parts of this. Love it.

I just think 'Synchestra' is such a great album, primarily due to its variation and level of experimentation, but also because Devin shows off his vocals more so on here than any of his other albums. As on 'Accelerated Evolution', production is top-notch, and even some of the 'sillier' yet exciting songs such as 'Vampira' prove to be brilliant tunes. And Townsend's dancing on the video of that song is epic.

While not the best DT album as a whole, I think this has the most great individual DT songs of any of his albums. Let It Roll + Hypergeek (I consider them 1 song, idk why he decided to split them), Triumph, Pixellate are all probably top 5ish for me. Others like Babysong/Gaia/Vampolka-Vampira are also great.

This album is immense. Most of the songs get to an interesting place one way or another.

This CD rules. Probably my 3rd favorite Devy record behind OM and Terria. How this has a lower rating than AE is beyond me. This is superior in every way IMO.

Music was so uplifting, I had to listen to a funeral doom album to bring me down
