Forgot how great Free Floating is.

Either Floorplan is overrated or I just don't like techno that much, since I didn't really feel it. Gave this a first listen and it was pretty good, though as someone who's been inoculated with balls-to-the-walls electro and pop house I don't see the "big-room" aspect of this as much as I probably should. Will listen again
Are you familiar with Robert Hood's other stuff? Really minimalistic Detroit techno, he's one of the pioneers of that style.
Think big room as in the main area of a respected club, e.g. Panorama Bar or the like. Don't confuse it with mainstream Ibiza stuff. Still, the obvious Underworld and Chem Brothers references make it obvious to me that these are all 4am peaktime tracks.

I have discovered Floorplan a few days ago. Paradise is awesome but you really need great ear/headphones or decent speakers to appreciate how he made his tracks. It's meant to be played loud. Otherwise they won't "work", i.e. on laptop speakers. The album is really all simple but so damn efficient.
Nice work clerc! Haven't heard of that one. I will definitely DL this. Can't say I'm not already hooked when you named The Chems & Underworld in the same review, two of my favorite acts :O

RA puts it nicely: "Robert Hood's side-project is all about durable DJ tools, 4 AM bangers, incendiary floor-ready bombs."

yes yes yes
nice work clerc! album's great, though I think you're throwing away the "best dance album" title too easily! Apart from this, the LP sounds meticulously crafted from the begging to the end.

what's better though

"Best dance album" only of this year of course. What would you say are the contenders for the title? Thanks btw. :]

that's not an easy answer, but I'd say Steven Tang, KMFH, Floorplan, Function, Drumcell and a couple of others have released equally good albums this year

kmfh, floorplan and function did not

The albums you list are very good, but this has something more to it, an undefined X-factor imo. Like, I really like that Kyle Hall record, but it loses a lot of its impact outside a club environment. It's less like that with Drone Logic.

This sounds pretty good- I don't hear too many left-field or inventive textures but it seems solid. Will have to give it a real shot.
Nice review!

Congrats on the feature!
kmfh, floorplan and function did not
They did release great stuff this year (still haven't really got around properly listening to Floorplan, though).
Either Floorplan is overrated or I just don't like techno that much
Bit of a bold statement here, given how diverse techno is
