Wilson's most emotive performance imo.

Sleep of No Dreaming is epic.

This might be their best, but a few of their others are just as good imo

It's strange to have Blank Planet so low, but I'm really into the more psychedelic, ambient, and pop rock side of Steven's songwriting nowadays (explains why HCE & TtB are my favorite solo records of his) whereas before I always liked the heavier stuff when I was a metalhead. Still, Blank Planet has some of their finest compositions with the lighter songs, and the third part of Anesthetize is quite possibly the best 5 minutes of the band's whole discography.

Blank Planet is just really inconsistent and I find Anesthetize to be really haphazard and sloppy.

T/t is an awesome jam but I dunno, find the record to be a chore for the most part.

With each of the last PT albums the heavier sections got a little less and less gripping and creative tbh, though the technical riffing in the bridge section of the Blank Planet t/t is awesome. The album is pretty sloppy in places though, especially the heavy sections of Way Out of Here, like the rest of the song is so great, get the metal out of there. I love Anesthetize though, the incredible drumming really carries it to that amazing finale.

Also can't forget Xbox is a god to me or whatever the line is, some of those lyrical gems lol

Was Chris on Blank Planet? Cos the drumming was without a doubt fantastic.

I'm on a PT binge at the minute so maybe a revisit is in order.

I do agree tho man, the band's more melodic tendencies are their best asset, sometimes their metal edge feels tacked on here and there.

Chris Maitland? He was let go when they started the prog metal album cycle with In Absentia, and got the mighty Gavin Harrison on board. He really stepped up the instrumental performances for Wilson and the other guys too, with how technical and creative his drumming was. He toured with Crimson for a while, and I think currently too.

Daaaamn, that's some appointment!

A Crimson and PT tour would've been awesome, although I think Wilson would fanboy Fripp hard.

Gavin Harrison would be playing the whole time! Haha yea that'd be the most epic concert ever, and if they involved Opeth too and added Storm Corrosion, like on the Opeth/Katatonia tour when they did a surprised performance of Bloodbath, since all the band members were there.

I mean I'd fly to the US for that and probably break out into a flood of tears.

Jealous of Mikael's and Steven's bromance tho, envy is a terrible thing.

Yeah but unfortunately Steven might've highly influenced Opeth on their recent direction :/ even though they still make great music for the most part.

Wouldn't mind another Storm Corrosion album, Opeth could do with a hiatus.

I would love a new Storm Corrosion, or if Opeth went in that kind of musical direction, just made the full leap to alienating their entire fanbase, instead of only the metalheads haha it'd be glorious
