Certainly a hell of a lot better than Solar Power, that's for sure

Well I also think Melodrama is pretty overrated so that's def informing my take

A weird thing about Solar Power (which I actually kind of like and think will have its day in the sun as a contrarian favorite down the line) is a bunch of that record seems to be about how she thinks her writing about her adolescence was somehow deficient. But then you listen to PH and it seems way more self aware than most of what she wrote on SP

I think Melodrama is easily her best, but this one is pretty special too.

I've just been listening to "ribs" a lot lately and I think that song has something I just don't get anywhere on melodrama, among other things

prefer melodrama overall, but this one definitely has a more signature sound

Melodrama is defs a better end-to-end record, but I feel it's disappeared into pop history; haven't felt a need to listen to it in years. Highlights and production on this left a more engaging/enduring legacy by a long shot

Yeah melodrama is an amazing pop album, but pure sound-palette wise (not really execution-wise) it sounds like it could have been made many other pop artists
While this feels more influential to me. Nowadays this more minimalistic production is more common, but i can't recall any other mainstream pop album sounding like this in 2013
