not as great as Candlemass and not as consistent, but a great band nontheless

Actually this is one of the most consistent metal bands. All their albums are great -even Downfall- Unlike Candlemass which has mediocrities like Chapter VI and Psalms
|
| |
Psalms was fine, though. Maybe just not what you expected from them.

Never got turned on to Downfall. I was a huge SA fan at the time because I love Darkest Hour, so I heard Downfall a lot, wanting it to click. But it never happened.
1. Through the Darkest Hour
2. Beyond the Crimson Horizon
3. Alone
4. Into the Depths of Sorrow
5. Adagio
6. Downfall.
I'm afraid I still would rate Doomicus above all these.

Downfall was an experimental effort, it's like SA went alt, strictly on their style.
Along with Through The Darkest Hour, it's my most played SA album.

I can put this album on the same level of EDM. It's easy to understand why they don't want to release a new album yet.
They don't want to ruin their streak of flawless albums.

...or they 're not anymore into this

I like to think that they don't want to be like Candlemass, being a hit or miss band.

Imo, the first two albums Candlemass did surpass everything these guys did

Cheers! Looking forward to that.
It's funny how metal from Sweden and Texas are so comparable. Of course there's a lot more Jesus in SA...

They are not THAT comparable. If you dig their discography a little bit harder, you'll find there are influences from the american metal scene that you won't hear in Candlemass

Definitely. But when I first heard SA, people's first comparison was Candlemass. I'd say SA has a bit more American groove.

That's totally understandable my friend. There are for two main reasons that people tend to hear only Candlemass in SA's music. Firstly, Candlemass are their main source of inspiration and secondly, despite the genre they belong, they're one of the most recognizable bands within the metal community. No other doom metal band has achieved the same level of recognition.

(I have no formalized research to but back my claims, but) I find that metal is more global, with less variance in local sound than other genres. I think this is a good thing.
But check out Demon Lung - A Dracula. Doom metal from Las Vegas. It reminds me a lot of SA, especially Gypsy Cursem.

SA has their own style, they are definitely not like Candlemass. And both were a huge influence for doom metal.

How would you describe the difference?
