Wow, there is way too much ignorant hostility toward EDM on this site.
It's true. However:
EDM and its rich history.
What rich history? The fact that it was a huge corporate endeavor in like 2009 and spiraled out of control, way away from
its roots in electro and house, and into the Epic Mashleg joke of an EDM scene?

I'm talking about the landmark albums and songs that were released in the years before the genre became a commodity. The term "EDM" is a widely contested umbrella term, tossed around as carelessly as "alternative rock", but I use it to refer to both the current mainstream products and the wealth of influential predecessors from the 1970s onward, like Computer World by Kraftwerk and Ray of Light by Madonna. Perhaps I should have made that clear, considering how loosely defined it is, and I could be wrong. And again, that's why there needs to be more coverage! Too much of popular music history has been dominated by rock, and now that it's being being supplanted by electronic dance music, many listeners don't know exactly how to react or what they can refer to for good, classic examples of its various genres and the sensibilities they work with.

It's true - electronic music has really, really rich history, and it's still really good on the whole. However, the kind of music that's come to be termed as EDM (note: EDM =/= electronic music) is really generic, stereotypical, and shoddily produced on the whole. I fully agree that there's a ton of very good electronic music (from this year alone: Swindle, Naibu, Machinedrum, Letherette, Frederic Robinson, and others - I can give you a fuller list if you'd like). However, there's been almost no EDM I've really liked - I'd have to say Icona Pop is probably my favorite "EDM-ish" album of the year, and I gave that a high 2.5/5.

"Wow, there is way too much ignorant hostility toward EDM on this site. This review was okay, but it still feels like forced ranting. It should be evident that some progress has been made since 2011, which I think was the darkest year for mainstream dance music. There are at least a few artists (like Avicii, in my opinion) who make sure that it doesn't all sound generic and terrible, and the misguided hatred I see on many of these comments is exactly why there needs to be more media coverage on EDM and its rich history."
Wow EDM
such experimentation

I think the last thing the modern EDM scene needs is more exposure
I think the last things we need are more shitty meaningless drops

people that likes this have no interest in music

that's actually prob true, it's the culture around it that they subscribe to rather than the particular music (at least imo), but hey if they think that's worth their €50 who are we to judge
