This is very monotonous omfg, but not as bad as I was expecting.

It's ok if you're in a dancey and not-giving-a-fuck mood nut there's no way I'd listen to this by choice

Kudos for saying it as you feel. I think it is a great mirror of today’s social media business. Everyone gives the seasonal celebrities all their thumbs up to get on some of the fat "ride" and advertisers shower them with huge piles of money. Dare you say something against, you will be tar and feathered on youtbe. You have to like what everyone else likes.
When I first heard avicii I thought this is one of those old demo scene 4track MOD songs that we older gen were up our necks two decades ago. Way to dig up the stuff.

surprisingly ranty considering you do give the album a bit of praise lol

"Dare you say something against, you will be tar and feathered on youtbe"
yeah but that's fun sometimes when people are being idiots
|

hey brother is probably the worst song i've ever listened to in my life
|

agreed. Its attempt to be country is laughable and one of my mates tried to defend it by saying it has good lyrics.

This review is a laconic, bile-filled piece of drivel to a degree that I have never seen. If you're going to fault Avicii for making a bad electro album, for the love of God do not cite the Harlem Shake, much less compare the two. That's like comparing Shane Koyczan to a YouTube commenter. Ignoring that, your arguments are filled with fallacies, including a complaint of the "whooshing" (WTF?) sound in electronic music that is rarely seen anymore, and rarely was at the time of this record's release. In fact, I might say Avicii invented that sound. Get your facts straight. Downvoted.

damn shots fired. if we had a downvote system that'd be a lot more effective though
re: the Shane Koyczan reference, it's a bit of a stretch, but I assume Avicii is the YouTube commenter as "Harlem Shake" is far and away better than anything on this album. if we're going to make a better comparison though I'd say Avicii with DJ Sprinkles or something
and what are you talking about with respect to the "whooshing" sound? listen to literally anything released on Spinnin' Records from many years before the Avicii album. and I don't say that to defend Spinnin' either as they're generally pretty ass. no way in hell Avicii invented it, it's pretty much been a staple of transitions between sections in house and occasionally techno for as long as I can remember
(also of all the words I would use to describe this review "laconic" certainly isn't one of them)

I can't take EDM albums seriously. Like, at all.

And no one ever heard from Qracker ever again...
But guys, seriously. I Could Be The One is a tune

I Could Be The One and Penguin/Fade Into Darkness are both pretty phenomenal

Boy, there be no "whooshing" in techno. Mainly because they know how to mix
|

No whooshing on my watch

"occasionally" meaning "hardly ever" but I'm pretty sure I've heard it somewhere at least

In response to Brostep, my comment about the "whoosh" was depressingly misinformed, as it seems that at the time of my posting that, I forgot about the existence of deadmau5 and Spinnin'. But I still stand by the fact that the Harlem Shake is fine on its own, but it is nowhere near the quality of this album. Then again, that could be just the result of personal bias (check out that 4.0 y'all).

This review is garbage. This album is actually pretty good. At the time this was put out dance music was really lacking creativity and needed something new. When Avicii first put this out and played it people were like what the fuck is this because it blended a bunch of genres with EDM. This album brought the idea of stepping outside box blending other genres to the mainstream. Say what you want about Avicii because this site is filled with hipsters who hate the mainstream but this Album changed dance music. This is actually the album that first made me think "hmmm maybe EDM isn't so bad". Fuck these trash comments.
