I guess having Octavarium in my bottom 3 DT albums is a really unpopular opinion.

Idk it's in my bottom 4 tbh

Surrender to Reason is probably my favourite off this. Tasty

I like this album a lot, could easily 4 it I think

It's better than train of thought for sure

Underrated hard. Illumination Theory alone is worth the price of admission.

Some great ones on here for sure. Surrender to Reason, The Looking Glas, Behind the Veil and Along for the Ride are all damn fine tracks. Agreed Titan bro, this is borderline 4 material as a whole.

As someone who doesn't love this band (love Surrounded tho), this one can be pretty cool.

I'm surprised to hear that Sabrutin

I feel they managed to make these songs pretty "hooky". Along for the Ride for instance is quite tasteful I think.

These hooks feel quite generic though, don't they? I would love this though, if the production was better. The drums feel so compressed and static

Sabrutin, I'm surprised to hear that you're not a big fan.
As for the album, there really isn't a song that I don't like. Enemy Inside, Looking Glass, and Illumination are the standouts for me. The others are all good too.

"These hooks feel quite generic though, don't they? I would love this though, if the production was better. The drums feel so compressed and static"
Sugar aplenty but I like how they're supported, like the pre-chorus in The Looking Glass with that great ""subtle"" drumming that leads into the chorus. I also can't help but enjoy the catchy call-and-response in The Bigger Picture, then the solo section after the second chorus feels very "earned" if it makes sense (plus it's just great imo).
For the production we can't change the sounds but at least there's the uncompressed digital version with twice the dynamic range.
"Sabrutin, I'm surprised to hear that you're not a big fan."
I don't necessarily dislike them, I can enjoy some stuff, but oftentimes it feels like some crazy technical warm-up exercises

On another listen today this is pretty well written imo. It's better than I gave it credit for. Good, hooky songs, I completely agree, Sab

I'll surely give the discog another run at some point by the way. Also the new single dropped

Listening to this again for the first time in a while... it's ok, but every song between The Bigger Picture and the closing epic could have been cut; all three songs are boring as hell and needlessly pad the record out. But there's still some good stuff here and there... the epic is still pretty great, and The Enemy Inside is probably one of my favorite straight-up metal bangers of DT's later work

"but every song between The Bigger Picture and the closing epic could have been cut"
that's like the best part of the record I think

I am here for the simple, catchy bangers with radio choruses. Enemy, Looking Glass, Picture, Veil, all of them are great DT stuff. Nothing mind blowing, but good stuff.
I wish the instrumental was actually going somewhere tbh, i would love some good new instrumentals by them
