you miss my point. we both agree that certain bands are influenced by certain other bands, yet we give them a different amount of respect. you admit american football is pioneering a style, yet you refuse to call them revolutionary. well, let me do the same with kayo dot -- let's say that indeed nobody did classical meets metal before? so what! i can refuse to call them revolutionary just as well.

you say mercury rev were special because they revived psychedelia (they didn't btw, see spacemen 3). why is reviving a genre a good thing? not very revolutionary is it? and if it is -- well, interpol revived post-punk, yet you only gave them a 3.0 at best. this is what i'm talking about -- you are always (quite heavily) biased in your opinion about how original something is. because you like metal, you are far more likely to consider something original in the genre, because you are sensitive towards it. because you are not a fan of emo music, you are less likely to notice the little things people do differently in the genre, AND even if you do notice, you are more likely to not appreciate their importance and brilliance the way you do with metal (as seen here).

"you say mercury rev were special because they revived psychedelia (they didn't btw, see spacemen 3)" Read what I posted again. " because you are not a fan of emo music." I would disagree. In fact some of my favourite musical discoveries of the past few months have been from the emo genre. (such as Daïtro and One Eyed God Prophecy). You are correct in saying I have a preference for metal music over emo. But with a quick look at my ratings you would find out that only 20/255 of my albums rated 4.5+ are metal.

From wiki ~ "The term "emo" has been applied by critics and journalists to a variety of artists, including multi-platinum acts and groups with disparate styles and sounds"

I struggle to see the genre is anything but lyrical content.
