Their drummer is actually insane, agreed

"The drums in Nachash piss me off though. Who does the drummer think he is, doing whatever it is that he's doing."
reminds me of an interview with Liam and Greg from TDEP. They were asked "favourite thing someone shouted from the crowd" and Liam instantly answered: "Play one the drummer knows!"

i just realized that We Are is a straight 4/4 shuffle and not some odd time bullshit like i've been hearing it this whole time

Kind of hard to believe that all the jokes about Tool end on 30.08, while is Karnivool not even hinting at something new. I don't care if they played some new stuff live, studio material is all that matters at the end of the day

We Are works as 3/4 to my ear as much as it does 4/4, somehow.
But this is from memory, as I can't listen right now.

Still need to check this album... been a massive fan of Themata and Sound Awake going back several years, "Change" is one of my top 5 favorite songs of all time, but for whatever reason I skipped over this album when it came out

Any idea who their drummer was at the time?

...or so you believe. Rookie mistake.

This thing kinda just sounds like a bunch of random noises thrown together. I think I somewhat like it but can’t decide lol. Definitely gonna take a few listens.
I don’t know guys, I feel like I’m general this is a pretty good band, but I think they’re a little overrated here on sput. For me they’re inconsistent (even Sound Awake). When they’re good, they’re amazing — but that’s only half the time really, at best.

I think that's because of their intention to experiment a lot. I can imagine that for some people it will be hit or miss. I totally enjoy it. Especially if you take a look at where they are coming from and how they constantly evolved

@supremejelly: the interview was made during the "one of us is the killer"-tour but they did not specify when people shouted that. But since Liam said it, it can literally be any of their 3 drummers

Yeah I still need to explore this more. Gotta say though, diving into Jimmy Eat World for the first time and just listened to Clarity in full...something tells me their discog is about to completely take my attention (with my daily Fear Inoculum spin of course).

Sound Awake is better than anything by Tool, easy. This is obviously better than Fear Inoculum, but it ain't on the same level as Aenima or Undertow, in my humble opinion.

We Are, Aeons and Sky Machine are amazing.
Also, just came across an article from May saying they’ve been in the studio so maybe a new album is in the cards for the near future:

Sound Awake is good, but not even as good as Tool’s worst imho (see? We all have opinions).
