yeah i mean like i said this is definitely no better than about a 4, likely to settle to a comfortable 3.5.
mbdtf is def better (as are his first couple) but this one is unlike anything i ever expected of him and is refreshing for that. how do you follow up an album like mbdtf? the simple answer is you don't.

i guess what i mean is that while there is a definite drop in quality here, he avoids the disappointment of a sub-par release following a well-received work by coming out with something completely different. i don't want to reduce it to simply a crafty career tactic, but it definitely is that even if not created primarily for that purpose. not that i think disappointment was inevitable after mbdtf, but i think this was the perfect time for him to try releasing an album like this.

This was maybe a 2.5-3 on first listen-- it sounds like Yeezy really doesn't give a fuck. Which is cool on first impression, in a way, but not much fun to listen to. I enjoy Kanye West when he's meticulous with his music, when he utilizes all the nuances like MBDTF had. This album feels too musically shallow on the first listen, but I'm Bound 2 listen to it again soon.
