When are these guys gonna stop producing meandering droning rubbish, or music for sleep-wellness (literally) and actually release a new LP? It's been a while.

Wish this album was braver with the darker sound and used it more frequently - this is the only SR album I like and I really like it. Just can’t seem to get into those bands that rely solely on the lighter side of post rock. I know it’s going to be sacrilegious to say but when I listen to any other SR album I just hear endless twinkly keyboard sounds, a whining voice that is totally disconnected to anything happening with the music and songs that just float and seemingly go nowhere. Believe me I’ve tried, but cannot find any connection with the band. Probably explains why I can’t get into Yndi Halda either or almost all of Mono (except Nowhere Here Now and One Step More and You Die - love both of them). If I want subtlety or mellow blissed out music I’ll be diving into some other genre for that fix.

Content of that comment may draw some ire but you're right about this being the best SR album (by far)

This is too concise for the (q obvious) dud tracks not to stand out a ton, but otherwise it'd have a good shot at #2 for sure

I would have loved to hear more abrasive synths like at the end of Brennistein

To which dud tracks do you refer Johnny?

Stormur and Rafstraumur - uncoincidentally the least abrasive two here. The opening trio + t/t are kinda unfair on the rest of the album though

I think the "least abrasive" tag belongs to Var but I'd agree if you said those two were the most pedestrian or something to that effect. Guess it doesn't really bother me given they bookend the t/t and as such the album doesn't have any real sustained troughs in quality, only peaks. Could definitely argue other SR albums are more aesthetically consistent but that's more of a gripe on my end than a compliment ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Sigur Ros. It’s all a bit arsey innit.

Var is a cute outro and I'm not gonna dump on it lol, but yes otherwise agreed

I vibe this sentiment but would say Ágætis a pretty striking range of tones and moods in a way their others (bar this) don't. I mean, Takk is one long lakeside meadowescape commercial lol

I liked it better a few years ago. The classic vid of the Down syndrome mob dallying about in that field or hillside or whatever it was blew me mind back in the day to be fair but yeah arsey.

Having dragged myself through their discography - suddenly being hit by Brennistein was nothing short of a eureka moment. I had a similar reaction to After You Comes the Flood with Mono. At least I now know what I like in my post rock which is just as well, as it’s a minefield out there.
