christgau's review is funny even if it, and every other review he writes, would piss me off if I took it too seriously:
"using bits and pieces of dumb crap, which is ecological, to make smart crap, which is less so ("Frontier Psychiatrist," "Close to You")"
"flight 22" strikes me as the "dumb crap," the kind of low-brow reference point engaged throughout, though not exclusively. but I'd say there's more of an element of transformation than with, I dunno, endtroducing, and that the transformation isn't merely in the extent to which they manipulate the samples.
