Damn, totally forgot about Gorod. Even worse is that I like them more than Gojira haha.

Seems there is still hope for you regarding French metal (btw, you also liked that latest Fractal Gates album - they're French as well).

Also, thoughts on Year of No Light?

Shit, maybe there is hope after all ;)

Never listened to Year Of No Light though. I always had the assumption they were post-metal or something, which is a genre I am not too fond of.

Only bits and pieces of this album impressed me. The guitar playing is by far, the weakest link IMO.

The rest of the band seemed solid with exception of the clean vocals.

@Bloc

They are, but they're definitely not traditional post metal. They have strong sludge and doom influences and they're pretty damn great at creating dark soundscapes. They're also instrumental (now, their first album wasn't). Here, check this out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tm7dLpEqppc

'I'm starting to think French metal isn't for me. Other than Gojira (whom I enjoy quite a bit) all other "métal français" I listen to never seems to sit well with me.'

Never listened to Deathspell Omega.

And that Year Of No Light track is kind of boring without vocals : (
I might check out the first album then.

I actually can't vouch for their debut, as I haven't heard it haha. I do like their vocal-free stuff a lot, though, and I am horribly, horribly disappointed that you didn't dig that track, as it was one of my favorites from last year.

Cool, Ipod, I'll check it out.

Yeah yeah, I am SURE the song is amazing, okay? By now you should be used to disappointment haha ;)

Great album, but I thought some of the songs dragged on a little bit too much.
