i'd say this is their most consistent after alligator, the second halves of both high violet and boxer are pretty weak for me

the second half of HV rules hard though, the last three tracks omg. and well, agreed a bit that Boxer's second half isn't that amazing

actually on second look the weaker tracks on HV are more spread out, but yeah, given that the opening 3 tracks on boxer are pretty much my favorite 3 national songs the second half is really disappointing apart from ada

Fake Empire, Squalor Victoria, Apartment Story, Slow Show and Ada are the best on Boxer imo

first half of boxer is best although that's probably their most consistent album imo

They are all soooo gooood. 5ing Boxer was a good choice. Especially since I like it a lot more than half of my other 5s, lol

Boxer is their most inconsistent of their last four albums imo but still a solid 4.5

i don't really get all the love for those two tracks. sure apartment story has some nice lines and guitar work, but it never really gets off the ground (like a lot of the second half i feel). and slow show is lovely but i'd say they've done the same kind of thing better on other albums

The National has never been at their best in writing straight-forward rock songs imo

Well, Jeff, I strongly disagree. I think Slow Show is heartbreaking, mixed with that perfect Boxer-atmosphere.

Apartment Story is probably my fav song by them, and one of my all time favorites. I love it.

"So worry not, all things are well, we have our looks and perfumes on" sung by Matt's amazing voice gives this shallow line a much deeper meaning. I always think that it's a man so unbelievably devoted to his lover that he tries to cheer her up no matter what ("We'll just stay in our apartment, watch the tv. We make up our own world; just look at all our clothes and perfume (made up)" etc.

That's basically how I see Boxer. A story kinda like that. I make it a concept-album. (yeah, call me crazy)

Yeah Apartment Story is one of my favourite National songs too. Also, no love for Start A War? That'd probably be in my top 5 or so.
