Review Summary: Not as bad as people say
Capture the Crown, a band known for breakdowns on top of synth that sounds like they ripped off of Stand Up and Scream and every other generic metalcore band. Most of the members coming from Atlanta Takes State, they came up into Australia already somewhat known, and released a generic music video that received mixed feelings. Finally after touring in America for a month they release their debut album Til Death and to an extent do it well.
First off, the conception every song in this CD sounds the same can be dismissed, as while they do use several similar breakdowns in each song, each song has it's own flow. While some songs like Storm In A Teacup or Lax hold them back, in Ladies and Gentlemen I Give You Hell, they show that they can improve and actually release a song that doesn't sound well, generic. Jeffrey Welfare isn't the best screamed vocalist, but his lows are very refined, and his clean vocals aren't too whiny, while the highs and occasional forced vocals sound like he is having his innards ripped out. The lyrics while over used and probably too hateful(you filthy f***ing C***) Jeffrey does have some high points lyrically throughout the album. Controversal RVG has the best chorus of the album and shows a meaningful side of this band that they could maybe try to expand on.
The guitars in this album are chuggy with no well executed moments, but they do follow the drums and Jeffrey and give him some backup throughout the 14 tracks. The acoustic abilities of this band are the only thing that didn't sound under thought filled, and while they aren't the best with instruments they do have some good breakdowns. Most of the people who view this album will just find something wrong with them, whether it be the over use of breakdowns, or the terrible way they use auto-tune but Capture The Crown does have some strong points in their music. The drums are the drawback, being uninspired and filled with the same basic beats that are found in most metalcore acts, minus the fills.
All in all, while this band isn't amazing, they aren't terrible and with the release of their latest single Rebearth, coupled with Ladies and Gentlemen, and Help Me To Help You, this band shows some promise that maybe they can try to capture and crown as their own.
