you'll note mark kozelek's adept use of dog whistles

the faint sound of bright albumleaf synths accurately detail the salty waters of kozelek's minimalsitic childhood

also "baby in death" sounds like beach house lol

serious point - by the time i awoke is really really good. but album is not. and the best part of this album is how kozelek (typically) doesn't strain his vocals, just lets them peter out in the way a less studied singer (lol, like me, he's the kind of guy i'd like to go for a beer with!!) would. i love when he does that. his voice is perfect for it.

I've played it to a few friends and they all think it's wonderful. I think it's very wonderful. At the moment it's a toss up between this and the Steve Mason album for album of the year.



After half a dozen listens I saw the length of some of the tracks, I thought they were all about 3 minutes long ......... then I realised it was 4:30 a.m.
