'The Pop Underground' is the self-released solo debut EP from former Something Corporate & Jack’s Mannequin front-man Andrew McMahon. While these 4 tunes unmistakably come from the singer-songwriter, the now 30 year old chooses to forego the piano here & dabble in electronics. The heavier use of synth means this is McMahon's most radio-friendly output thus far, while the greater reliance on (simple) catchy choruses cements this fact. Unfortunately, while solid & more than listenable, none of these 15 minutes is particularly memorable, meaning this is a comparative step down for such a talented musician. Recommended Tracks: Catching Cold & After The Fire.

Where's spell-check when you need it? Make that comparative.
