i really like this write-up a lot but i for the most part disagree with your reading of the album as an 'existential crisis' of sorts... or at least in contrast to s/r.
also i still don't get why we're not supposed to appreciate (or celebrate!) her cutesy-doomed world view... i think it's one of her strongest selling points

seriously tho, this is the amount of thought and attention that should go into reviewing way to raise the standard, dude...

I guess I was trying to say that this album is what comes after an existential crisis, in that it seems to be about moving on with life and having fun anyway. the "cute" thing is a matter of personal taste I suppose, I just wanted people appreciate that her music is more than that, or at least it can be for the people that like it on that level.

the overpopulation of the Earth, the building international nuclear conflict, the rampant corruption in high levels of governments across the world
the super volcano in yellowstone that could potentially wipe out all life on earth when it goes off.
the review is definitely a great read, but stuff like this: "Why, in spite of all of this misery and emotional turmoil, should the world keep spinning as before, as always?" is kind of lame

finally listened to this and its a bunch of boring whiney shit
shes only this popular because all you losers wish she was your gf
girls like these dont make good gfs theyre more dramatic and bitchy than sorority whores
"Will this stop California from sinking into the ocean, or make your parents love you like they used to? Almost certainly not. But this life is all we have, and we do ourselves a disservice when we wallow in depression and build our problems up like they equate to the end of the world."
this album doesnt do this at all but instead makes it even more meta-self important by acting her problems are big enough to actually overcome and then writing stupid ass dramatic metaphors about that process of overcoming AND WOO LOOK AT ME I BEAT MY DEPRESSION MATURING ACCEPTING LIFE YAY. its just as much of a pander to post teen college kids that are trying to "mature" as "fuck the world" punk motifs are pandering to teen angst.
