This is probably the most accessible album to introduce TDH. Probably has the most catchy songs as well.

First four songs rule, but others are quite boring. On the first listen at least.

don't buy into the hype over the first four songs. this album is great as a whole.

First listen I loved the first 4 tracks and the last 2 but the rest felt like fillers, how wrong I was. After a few listens the subtle melodies started to grow on me and I can't stop listening to it. An album shouldn't hit you straight away and this is the strength of The Dear Hunter, even after hundreds of listens the layers of sound still deliver surprises.

I second this, though I've only gone through the entire album a little over 7 times. Not nearly even a hundred.

If you listen to something over a hundred times and you still haven't heard everything it has to offer; you are probably

doing something wrong.

Listening to it now. Whisper sticks out the most to me so far. But overall I love Casey's voice and this is definitely one of those albums that will end up growing on me.

I would say Act III's songs are slightly more immediate and catchy than these, on the whole.

Girl is incredible. Album is great but a bit of a drop in Dear Hunter quality (which is mostly amazing).

Yeah, maybe as a whole Act III is, but from the very beginning this album boast nothing but catchy melodies. After a while, it becomes less focused on simply sounding good, so I agree.

Haven't checked The Dear Hunter out yet, should I start with this?

It would be a more accessible intro to the band, like I think someone else has also stated. So, sure, give it a try.
