For a second I thought they ripped off a Dark Castle album title but then I remembered that album is Spirited Migration

This album fucking drags. it was like 4.5/5 twenty minutes in and by the end I feel like I'm being generous with the 3. These dudes fall in the "tried way too hard to be good and ended up being painful" category.

I just discovered Persefone today and bought Spiritual Migration after hearing the intro and first track. I'm not at all sorry to be in the apparent minority here: I fucking *love* this CD. In fact, I'm listening to Core right now and wishing I'd heard them the other way around, because this pales in comparison.
The most outstanding thing about this band is their production. Even some of the best acts in melodeath release albums that sound like they were recorded and mixed in public restrooms with tin walls (Kalmah, Insomnium, and Mors Principium Est immediately come to mind). I cannot say that I have ever heard a melodeath album with such clean cymbals, beautifully balanced mids, and tight bass as Spiritual Migration. This CD sounds nearly flawless in my car. It makes me weep for Persefone's more famous Finnish, Swedish, and Norwegian colleagues.
This is the treatment that *every* talented metal band deserves. Spiritual Migration should be the gold standard by which every other metal album's production is judged. (Excluding, of course, black metal artists who opt for raw production as a stylistic preference. I'd never ask Darkspace to give that up.)
TL;DR -- Outstanding album, and a legitimate contender for best production values in *all* of melodeath.

^Agreed, and that's due to mixer/masterer Jacob Hansen. He's become known for his great production (see also: Amaranthe's two albums).

The climax in Consciousness is nothing but legendary. Pretty much as beautiful as music can get.

Apparently they are working on new material and should have an album out early 2016, can't wait. Having that said, they should seriously turn down on the wank and chug this time though. If they just bring the best aspects from this, leave out the flaws and add some new interesting elements, they could create another masterpiece
The title track of this is truly awful though, wtf were they thinking when they made that song?
