Oh snap, I didn't know you were a fan Storm.

Okay I'm convinced "Architecture of the I" is top 10 song worthy for this band.
They really balance things out with some of their more aggressive and menacing riffs to date and their prettiest soundscapes.
4.5 easily. I get the changes will upset many, but they've evolved in a way that, to me, asserts their position as progressive metal masters. They've done it at all at this point and with flying colors.

Yeah Mars I got hooked during the last album cycle a few years ago.

Drumming is insanely varied on the new one too.
I'm finding a LOT worthy of praise.

And the guest features were just brilliant. Absolutely brilliant. And this is going to get me into a huge Angel Vivaldi discog run. That man is amazing.

Leprous' singer really sets the tone. He's got a small role, but it's absolutely a perfect setup for "Katabasis."
Man I love this band lol

Yup yup, another note on the drumming is how well it works with the atmospheres. Even awesome. I love the album art too, very fitting for the sound and scope of the record.

I swear there's a little synth part that comes in on "Architecture of the I" that seems to tease the reoccurring one from "Stillness is Timeless."
This really is a culmination of this new era. You had their melodeath/prog death era (Truth to Shin Ken) and this is the sum of the tech/prog metal era (Spiritual to now).
They put it all together here.

I’m not familiar with their old discography. I’m going to enjoy this as a potential AOTY/Top 5 AOTY for a few months, go back to Aathma, then eventually let myself see what happened in the past around the time 2022 closes out. It is very interesting how this came out when Rolo also did and this is just as strong as they are. Both incorporate so many creative directions with such strong quality in every aspect. One word? Juggernaut.

They've had a fascinating evolution over their past several years. They began pretty solidly in the melodic death metal camp, then advanced into progressive death metal with their melodic flair. They then transitioned to pretty aggressive songwriting, eventually leading to a heavily technical/progressive style. Since then, their sound has become more and more atmospheric, with their latest effort being the furthest they've gone in that direction thus far.

As someone who has followed them since the 2010s, it all adds up to me and I've cheered them on for each new album. Arguably my favorite band of all time, and almost certainly the most underrated act in the progressive metal realm. They have a unique sound that few others can match.

I definitely am weird when I think of other bands to compare them to. I see them as the extremely more enjoyable versions of what bands like Tesseract etc tried to accomplish and Persefone is so much more. From what you say I def wouldn’t see it like that if I knew them longer.

They still sound a lot like their roots while also having advanced a fair bit. It's incredible how much they've accomplished, really.
And golly yeah these guys run circles around Tesseract, no question. Apologies to Tesseract fans.

Nahhh Tesseract are awesome as heck, and I still prefer them and The Contortionist over Persefone ever so slightly. But Persefone certainly takes the cake over them in terms of sheer volume of notes, LOL. Although this is subjective, I just prefer them more.

This is i think my fourth playthrough already and I gotta give kudos again to the drumming. What a performance!
I'm also close to forgiving the lack of another proper banger. "Anabasis pt 2" is a massive tune and i don't think I gave it enough credit.

I dont even know how this got into a djent discussion, as I dont think this sounds much like Tesseract at all. But yeah, this thread is probably flooded with djent naysayers, so I wont rebuddle any further as it will be pointless.
