I think that might be your particular problem Demon, since Core is once-in-a-lifetime album. I'd definitely give them at least a few more tries.

I did listen to Shin more than the once, it was post-Core though & there's no escaping how that disappointment hit me like a ton of bricks (in a purely superficial 'music related' way, I wasn't about to throw myself off a bridge).
Now I've given it a while I'll revisit, probably start with Shin again, then this.

It's at least worth a cursory glance due to the stylistic differences, even if you're not huge on their other stuff (not sure if you are). I find it far more cohesive because although it's technical, they don't compromise on the song-writing aspect.
Whatever you do check the original 2006 recording, it's on Spotify.

Yes, but for the love of all things good please start with Core (or if you’re a completionist their debut is a fine starting point too). And I’ve said this before... the Core remaster is bad, go for the original.

Some people like their new direction, you might as well, but it seems Core is (almost) universally liked by fans of the later material anyway.

Idk they have very respectable 5s & none of them are particular flashy in a tech prog sort of way, the closest they get is Unquestionable Presence/Symbolic so I’d say go for the era where they death/prog the hardest rather than when they added core elements & got a little flashier.
