Its not "Prog Punk", just because its long, doesnt make it prog.
I haven't heard the song, but I am pretty darned sure it's prog.. I can't see how you can have an 18 min long song without it being a progression from one point to another. Unless it's a boring song. (And, according to the replies, it isn't boring.. hehe)

"The Diamond Sea" - 19 minutes, pulled off way better.
I can't stand NOFX at all, so I guess I really shouldn't comment on this album..

NOFX's opus. Unquestionably their best song, and it shits on most other 18-minute songs I've heard. Besides, the song is great because the lyrics are well-written, to-the-point, and intelligent. The musicianship is top-notch, it's energetic AND it runs through a whole gamut of moods, emotions, and most importantly, it's pissed off. One of the best punk songs ever made.
5/5

Actually this is my favorite song ever. And I assure you I've listened to a f'ucking lot of music, but I find this a complete masterpiece. Every part has its own special thing, where an instrument or some vocals complement every other in that same part. The song flows excellently all the way through and the lyrics are awesome. There's not a single wrong thing about it, maybe the last 2 minutes but I think it's a good ending because by adding more and more backup vocals and instruments to it provides an "epic" (? I don't think that's the correct word) feeling to it.This Message Edited On 12.25.05

lol, the album is ususally cheap at most stores, and it says right on it "do not pay more than 11 dollars for this" so if you see it for more than 11 dollars its bogus. definetly worth the money tho, one of my favorite songs
|
| |
Meh, this is average. There are good parts, but then there's also as many, boring, uninspired parst as well. Plus, there's the fact it's fucking $11. I didn't even know this was an EP when I bought it. I figured it would've been cheaper if it had been, but when I opened it up, and saw the cd, I thought, I've been fucked.

My sister bought this thinking that it was an actually full length album. I like a few parts in the song, but I can't really sit through all of it. The vocals get on my nerves and the song goes through some very slow parts around seven and eight minutes.
|
| |
I love this song, not just because its 18 minutes long and i dont give a shit that its expensive for what it is i just like the song.

This was the first NOFX record I got.
The moment I played it, it just shouted "YO!" at me.

""The Diamond Sea" - 19 minutes, pulled off way better."
Pfft, I bet it was purely done to spite them.
|

got this this morning, shits on alot of extended punk songs Ive heard. I listen to albums all the way through anyway, so I see it like a merged NOFX album. I like it.
|

Sorry Storm buddy, this song is NOT a 2. And How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb is one of the worst U2 albums ever, btw.

WOW, AMAZING, best album i have never heard ! One song who's good to the bigginning until the end ! wow , nice political and real lyrics , amazing instrumental skills, nofx have prouved that they're the best punk-rockband off all time ....
I listen to this only song every day since 5 years and every time im still impress ! nofx ROCK !!
|
| |
"the problem with 20 minute songs is that barely anyone would listen to it the whole way through"
I've listened to it 18 times through. I've had it for maybe 2 months.
|
| |
Yeah, it's clocked at 24 on my iTunes.

I'm actually debating whether to give this a 5 or not. When I first saw that this was an 18 minute NOFX song, I shuddered at the thought of how boring it could be. I was surely mistaken. Not only did it exceed expectations, it also proves to be one of the most epic pieces I've heard in a while.
|
| |
I don't see how this can get a 5, it's just beyond me. It's really, truly something special but a 5? It's a freakin' song that you're holding up to the greatest albums of all time. It's not like their ideas are completely revolutionary or that the song length is different from all other punk either. Take a listen to the closer of the Subhumans' From the Cradle to the Grave and self-educate. The music is great but all this album did was prove that NOFX still dominate the punk scene, not change it.
