I make it too easy for you.
As for the album, I think the element of the Strokes coming to an end helps them. There's a line in Welcome To Japan, "putting up posters of your bands, now I tear them down with my hands". Really stuck with me for some reason. Feels like they're saying "Yeah we're going away, sure, but...we've been there, done that and still win." Maybe I'm wrong and it's just throwaway bullshit, but there you go.

Great way to look at it, and I'd agree, which is why parts of the album sound casually tossed off to me. The whole album sort of has a laissez faire vibe to me and I do think what you're saying ties into that

I really liked 50/50, it's got those awesome decay/delay effects

After many more listens, it's a decent album but still below their others. They're making music just
to make music, no other reason seems like

Good guitar work and poppy melodies still define the Strokes. But it's a little different now. I like it.

I really really like this wuts up with all the haterade?...sure it's very different but I love it...one way trigger and slow animals are my faves...

weel, whatever comes and goes the strokes as a musical entity has meat on the bones still.
fortunately or unfortunately some bands are organically "cool", and Angles was pretty good, and a fair ammount of reviews that bagged it came back and changed their minds after a few listens,,and i think the same will happen again..
that last track,"call it faith ,call it karma",it's pretty out there, almost so out there it's kicking the year 1946 in the back of the head.

I find "Call it Fate, Call it Karma" rather addicting, and if not the most, seductive in the Strokes catalogue. I name to my top 3 songs off this album, along with "Happy Ending" and "Welcome to Japan".
