Just finished listening through their discography (I knew a number of songs, but couldn't remember actually listening to the full albums). I'm a little surprised by the middling reception to this one. I thought it was pretty good overall (especially "Tap Out" and "One Way Trigger"). My album ranking:
Room On Fire > Is This It > Angles / Comedown Machine > First Impressions of Earth
Looking forward to the new LP in April.

This very well may be their best album for me. I don't know why it was written off other than people were sick of the strokes in general at the time.
Did you ever check The Voidz Fuzzy? Julian made two albums with them, and the second is quite good. More experimental and at times abrasive than anything on a strokes record but seems to share a lot of DNA.
