God they made that sound so thick even for a live performance, so much going on there. Would kill to see him live someday

When this came out it made a big statement in the folk scene, his guitar playing with the weird tunings, his picking technique, capo usage, everything made him standout in a crowded genre.

First thing I ever saw of him was the Lowlands performance where he opened with "Depth Over Distance" and when I saw him knocking the beat on the guitar and breaking those high notes I knew he was one of a kind.

He's become my favorite guitarist out right now, so expressive and unique

Woah this blew up a bit, and yeah its weird seeing how traditional this is compared to its new stuff but in the context of the genre/time it must've been pretty unusual despite the folk anthem styling being pretty on the nose

Another thing to mention is that Ben on the back of this album was being compared to names like Nick Drake and John Martyn rather than being just another generic singer/songwriter.

Its way more simplistic, but I love it for that. I'm listening to the one that came out last year and I don't like it nearly as much as this, as that one is more ambient and this is pretty much straight ahead indie folk.
