Trying to do the In Flames list comparison just for fun. This one is difficult because I have never gotten through the entire thing. Is there a difference between disc one and two? I need this to make a little more sense because a double album for this genre still seems ridiculous to me.

no disc 2 has the same songs on it as disc 1, don't bother.

Maybe this is a controversial take, but I don't think either halves are too different from each other. Second half is a bit more of an experimental take on the Soilwork sound and more atmospheric, whereas disc 1 is more straight up bangers, but both sides have their own surprises.

The strength of this release for me is how much variation there is across both sides that the length is never an issue; there's so much content here worth coming back to.

basing that question on the premise that a double album would not make sense for this genre is pretty stupid though check yourself

I mean if melodies can be a bit too sweet after a while, I get it. I love power metal but it can exhaust me at a certain point lol

idk i think some genres have more of a lack-of-variety problem than others and this genre of metal really, really lacks variety

That's kinda what In Mourning had going on in The Weight of Oceans. Sounds like a post-rock band wearing the clothes of a melodeath group, very lovely sound.
